Changelog

• The path field can now be opened from the keyboard, with Command-Shift-E. It goes to the active pane, or to the bar that follows an Open or Save dialog. If an app already uses that combination for something of its own, it is left alone.
• Hidden folders — the ones whose names begin with a dot, such as .config — now show up while you are completing a path, as soon as you type the dot. Until then they stay out of the way, so the list of ordinary folders is not buried.
• Windows that have no path of their own, such as Recents, search results, and tags, used to open the path field empty, which left completion with nothing to work from. They now start at your home folder, and you can type or press Tab from there.

• When a Save dialog asked whether to replace a file that already exists, the path bar could sit on top of that question and cover its buttons, leaving you no way to answer it. The bar now steps aside while anything overlaps it, and comes back once the question is gone.

• Floating Finder now tells you when a new version is out. It looks once a day, and when there is something new a small note appears under the menu bar icon — nothing jumps in front of what you are doing. You can read what changed before deciding, and nothing is downloaded or installed until you ask for it.
• Updating keeps your settings, your licence, and the Accessibility permission you granted. You will not be asked to grant it again.
• This starts with 1.5.1. Earlier versions have no way to find out about it, so if you are on 1.5.0 or older you will need to install this one yourself. After that, updates come to you — or not, if you would rather they did not: the checking can be switched off under Settings in the menu bar.

• The address bar now completes folder names as you type. Suggestions appear right where you are typing, and you can reach all of them without leaving the keyboard: Tab or the arrow keys move through them, → fills one in so you can keep going deeper, and Return opens the folder.
• Matching is fuzzy, so doc finds Documents without typing it in full. The letters that matched are highlighted, so it is clear why each suggestion is there.

• Fixed a bug in Two Panes: when another app opened a folder (for example, via Spotlight or the open command) while Two Panes was active and Finder placed it as a new tab, only that pane came forward — the other could be left behind other windows. Both panes now come forward together.

• Open and Save dialogs show the full path in far more places. Browsers usually open their Save dialog in its small form, with the file list collapsed — until now there was nothing to read the location from, so you only saw a folder name. Floating Finder remembers the folders it has already seen and recognises them by name, so the path is there.
• In column view, the path now follows the folder you picked. It used to settle on whichever column happened to hold the most files, so choosing a folder with only a few items in it left the path where it was.
• The path keeps up when you change the location from the dialog’s own pop-up menu, and when you move between columns.
• Folders whose names macOS translates — Downloads, Desktop, Documents, Library, Applications — are recognised in your language. So is iCloud Drive, your startup disk, and a Desktop or Documents folder that is kept in iCloud.

• You can choose how big the text in the path bar is, from 12 to 16 pt. The steps match the ones Finder offers in its View Options, and the bar grows a little taller with the text. It starts at 13 pt, like Finder.
• Each window now keeps a single bar of its own. Switching tabs changes what the bar says instead of building a new one, so it no longer flickers or goes blank, and it stays with the window when you move or resize it.
• Two Panes holds together better. Moving one window always brings the other along, the pair comes back at the size you left it, and it is restored after you log out and back in — opening a second window for you if only one is waiting.
• The menu is shorter. Everyday actions are at the top and the rest sits under Settings and Diagnostics. It speaks up only about something you can act on, such as a permission that has not been granted.
• Diagnostics are gathered into a file that opens for you to read. They are taken at the moment you ask for them, and they no longer include your user name.
• The bar in other apps’ Open and Save dialogs is steadier: it returns when you come back to a dialog you left open in another app, and it stays within the window when a long file name is selected.

• The copy button copies the path of whatever you have selected in the Finder, filename and all — one path per line for several items. With nothing selected it copies the folder path, as it always did, and paths no longer end in a slash.
• The button tells you what it will copy before you press it — rest the pointer on it and the description names the selected item — and what it copied once you have.
• Two Panes works from a single window: it opens a second one for you. From several, the front two are tiled and the rest are tucked into the Dock, returning when you turn Two Panes off or quit.
• In Recents, the copy button copies the file you selected. Buttons that cannot work there — transferring between panes, swapping them — are dimmed rather than doing nothing when pressed.
• The bar keeps its colour after you click the desktop, and it follows your windows to another desktop instead of being left behind.

• Bookmarks live in a file of their own: ~/Library/Application Support/FloatingFinder/bookmarks.json. It is plain JSON you can read, edit, back up or copy to another Mac; delete it and the defaults come back. New installs start with ~/Documents and ~/Downloads, which is otherwise hard to reach with iCloud Desktop & Documents turned on.
• The bookmark list is drawn and placed by Floating Finder itself, so it opens at the star button rather than somewhere unrelated to it. One click is enough to go somewhere, in other apps’ dialogs as well as in Finder windows.
• Home, iCloud Drive and typing a path now work in windows that have no path of their own — Recents, search results, tags. Those windows no longer show the folder you came from, so “open in terminal”, “copy path” and “bookmark this folder” point where you actually are.
• In other apps’ Open and Save dialogs, the address bar follows the dialog when it is resized instead of being stranded below it.
• The address bar sits below the window in every case on macOS 26. It used to overlap the bottom of the window when only one window was open, which cut off a row.
• The menu bar menu shows which version is running, at the top. Handy when you have just installed an update and want to be sure it is the one that started.
• Diagnostics and the log are in English, so the report you are asked to send is one you can read.
